Actually, after the inclusion of 破地獄, I really wished I nominated Hate Me. Still easily my favorite MastaMic song. But 破地獄 is definitely innovative, so it is deserving of a spot in the top 100.

告別我的戀人們 is the first song that I have voted. Still my favorite from 2012. Very touching.

I am ok with this Pakho song getting in as his latter stances didn't really ruin this particular rally of support for his friend.

I like how real these 5 songs are.

Oh good, I thought I was the only one who didn't care for this song at all.

But my pick for worst choice so far is actually 光源. These kinds of chicken soup for the soul type songs can be found multiple time each year. And most of them don't need to steal a hookline from another song repeatedly.

I should say that I know going in, it wasn't likely that I will love all 100 songs or that all 30 songs I vote will make it (still holding out hope on this front though). But that's the fun part about this project!

Pong's transition out of his emo state is definitely worth rewarding. Though I still wish that 又燦爛又糜爛 received more love. But all three songs are wonderful.

I am surprised that 薄情歌 didn't make the top 50. Also sad about 后會無期, but that's not as surprising.

*I thought a long time on whether to include Frenzi as Media Asia. At the end, I want to acknowledge the support Media Asia has given to Frenzi and I also don't want to cut apart the different parts of Media Asia (goomusic, Kingdom C, etc.). But 撐著 is more clearly pre-Media Asia, so I decided to just count them twice.

On a related note, it doesn't make sense to give 金牌大風's songs to Warner as that brand has discontinued after the acquisition.

For some one reason, this list is now my most intriguing "battle", ESPECIALLY because I don't think anyone make their ballots with this in mind, but the top is still so close.

I think this is happening with Rubberband. 挾持 missing is slightly surprising but makes sense given the structure of the votes. I also couldn't find a place for it.


I was most happy about 山旮旯 among this group (I was never too shocked about 女神, even when I first knew last month). Glad to see it wasn't overshadowed by the bigger songs of 2019.

To truly represent the era, we can only do it after the completion of it. To be honest, I almost didn't put 火鳥 in my ballot as her actions did tarnish the song a bit. But that wouldn't be fair to 陳輝陽+林夕. So its placement here is pretty good for me.

Actually, these 5 songs together is strangely nostalgic.

Oh I was going to suggest we do 00-09 for 2025 (end of 1st quarter for 21st century!). Worth thinking!

Also, 羅生門 is absolutely a victim of the voting structure, as I couldn't put it on my list even though I think it is very deserving. I have no good suggestions though. Maybe 2 quotas per 10? Or 1 in the first 10 (group A) and 2 each for the other 10s (B and C)?

P.S. Kay is probably hurt even more in the album vote. But more on that later la.

I was actually quite shocked about 星塵 being able to reach this high. And I definitely think Endy deserves five songs but I am a little shocked that it is this five but not say 陽光燦爛的日子 / 天馬行空 / 時空 / 年輕人們 / 在天之靈, to name 5 that I thought was more significant/popular than the songs (besides 有時, which deserves the high ranking that it will receive) that got in.

To me, 水百合 is a declaration from her that she doesn't care to be popular and will still makes songs with her own style. Coming after the big hit 末日 and as a song that promotes a concert, I always thought that was very brilliant and has a special place in my heart. (In fact, I was really pleasantly surprised TVB gave it a top 10, probably one of the last time TVB pleased me with their awards.) Really glad it didn't get overshadowed.

It is a very timely song still, with 2019 adding a lot of relevance to it. I think it should have more votes than 海裡睡人, even though I guess I am surprised it is (potentially) doing better than 陀飛輪.

Similarly, I am still holding out hope for 佔領, but that seems to be forgotten indeed.

Part of (my personal) criteria for picking songs for my ballot is the significance of the song (to me, to Hong Kong in general). And it is a little difficult to reward Joey's songs here, even though I do like Pretty Crazy a lot. Also 破相, but that didn't make the top 200 (likely one of the songs that were eliminated under the 5 per artists rule).

If last year didn't happen the way it did, I might have voted for Pretty Crazy over 山旮旯. But that's the way things are...

Yes, I think this would be my first change as well.

My second change is no cut-off for the top 200 (but maybe expand to top 250). I think having a cut-off for the top 200 actually made it easier for artists like Eason and Endy to get all 5 songs in. If we let all 8 or 9 of their songs into the final vote, it would probably be harder for fans to rally around songs like 海裡睡人 / 守口如瓶 as their previous favorites were already eliminated.

My 3rd change would be to have some limit for the final 100. Perhaps no limit for the top 50, and then a 3 per artists rule afterwards. So the songs cut under this idea would be 山林道, 分手總約在雨天, 海裡睡人, 一絲不掛, 今生不回家, 守口如瓶. It may be a little sad to see some of these go, but a more diverse song list is probably better overall.

Anyways, just some ideas in my head. Overall, I think we did a wonderful job. Thanks again to all involved.

I really didn't know CM went all the way back to 2003. I think I joined around 2005. Hacken won two top awards in the 2000s! Would he have better luck in a (hopefully will be done) 2000 - 2009 百大單曲?

I like 親愛的黑色 a lot more and was really surprised that no one even nominated it.
(I was lazy in writing and had a 1 song per year quota for nomination and it went to 我的志願, which was an unfortunate miss for the top 200. But that's another topic.)

Perhaps her persona really did overshadow these 2 songs? By then, she could only chart 903 for about a month, so the songs may have came and went from our consciousness. And 2019 ate up most of the "quota" for social movements song. Or maybe these "hopeful" songs are not to the taste of those who vote with a political message in mind?

In the same vein, I am still a little surprised about 佔領 not making the list. That and 長相廝守 are the two songs on my ballot that I am most surprised about missing the list.

We can see which songs are helped/hurt by the voting structure. The only one that stood out is只有一事不成全你, as Pakho has no other songs to really pull votes from it. Which means if we start this whole process 3 months later, this song would likely not make it in.

I think under the current 3 songs max system, some consideration of the preliminary round is good. 今生不回家 and 勇悍‧17 are two good examples of songs that are saved by it. The initial passion of some songs in the preliminary round (差一點我們會飛 and 家明 are songs that are in the top 10 going into the final vote) is also a worthy factor.

But basically any way to run this would lead to some problems for some artists. For example, C AllStar having almost all of their most significant songs in 2013 - 2015 likely cost 后會無期 some 初選 votes (which ultimately led to it not placing in the final 100), similar to what you are saying about 雞羊. But any other ways to cut the years may lead to other problems.

Ultimately, I don't think the exact order is that important. Like others have said, the top 8 are all very nicely representing the era, so that's the most important part.
